Mariana Basto – Professional Conservator-Restorer, with an extensive and well-established career in the fields of Preventive Conservation and Collection Management.
Over the years, she has carried out numerous conservation and restoration interventions, while also developing technical and strategic expertise in the implementation of preventive measures, risk management, and environmental condition monitoring across numerous prestigious art collections. In 2011, she received, in partnership, the award for “Best Conservation and Restoration Intervention” granted by APOM (Portuguese Association of Museology).
She has been invited to contribute to presentations, lectures, conferences, articles and publications, as well as training initiatives, teaching, and the leadership of projects and teams.

Art Conservation Services for Contemporary Art Collections
Strategic Planning:
Development of preventive conservation plans and detailed treatment proposals (conservation and restoration).
Technical Diagnosis:
Conducting diagnostic examinations to identify materials, assess condition, analyze the nature and extent of deterioration, determine causes, and define the appropriate type and scope of treatment.
Intervention and Documentation:
Execution of conservation treatments, cleaning, and stabilization, with mandatory documentation (written and visual records) of all observations and procedures.
Prevention and Stabilization:
Assessment and implementation of measures to slow deterioration, prevent damage, and ensure long-term stabilization.
Collection Management:
Development of internal guidelines for the proper handling, transport, use, storage, and display of collection objects, including advisory and technical support for their preservation.
