The Other Echo (O Outro Eco)
This sound installation involves concepts of translation and the construction of a fictional reality. The sounds are derived from vibrations directly recorded through physical contact with objects and materials in a studio. The pulsations moving through these surfaces have been translated into sound. Each material is affected differently. What you hear is the other echo--the other side of the sound, a counterpart and reflection of our world. The scale relationships become inverted--the sound of people talking is very faint while the sound of a pencil drawing on paper is monumental, though ephemeral.
