FOR KEEPS is an exhibition that brings together a body of works the artist has kept over three decades of practice. It features everything from previously unseen early paintings to more widely recognized series, such as the Crystal Girl series. These works are simultaneously shaped by discourses of creation and selection: the artist positions himself as producer or creator, observer, guardian, and collector of his own work. In this exhibition, he proposes a re-reading of these works from a temporal distance that allows him to revisit intentions and meanings, constructing a narrative from works created at very different moments in his career.

Noé Sendas lives and works in Berlin, Madrid and Lisboa. Sendas began presenting his work in the late Nineties. Explicit and implicit references to artists and literary, cinematic or musical creations are part of his raw materials. Specific concerns about the reflection and practice of visual arts can also be added to his repertoire. These include: the body, as an entity that is simultaneously theoretical and material; the observer’s perception mechanisms; or the discursive and political potential of exhibition methods. His work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including Contretype, Brussels, MAAT Museum, Lisboa; Berlin; Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, Lisboa; MEIAC, Badajoz; C/O Berlin, Berlin; MNAC - Museu do Chiado, Lisbon; Designhaus, Darmstadt; VAC-Visual Arts Center, Texas; Goethe-Institut, Stockholm; TENT, Rotterdam; CAHO, Rio de Janeiro; MACUF, La Coruña; Museu Fundación ICO, Madrid and Kunstmuseum Bonn, A.D.K. Berlin. Work by the artist is held in prominent collections such as Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon; MAAT, Lisbon; Contretype Centre d`Art Contemporain pour la Photographie, Brussels; Culturgest, Lisbon; MEIAC, Badajoz, SP; MAR – Museu de Arte do Rio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; NOVO BANCO, Lisbon and Serralves, PT.
