For 50 years, the Ombudsperson has listened to citizens and worked to address their concerns. YOUR RIGHTS, YOUR VOICE! is a documentary exhibition in dialogue with contemporary art that celebrates this five-decade journey through landmark cases illustrating the breadth and diversity of the Ombudsperson’s work.
Through real stories, the exhibition highlights the role of a key institution in safeguarding rights and strengthening citizenship and democracy. It also brings together a selection of objects and contemporary artworks curated by Paulo Mendes.
Presented in dialogue with the documentary material, these works invite reflection on pressing social issues and open up new perspectives on the institution, its history and its mission.
Citizens are at the heart of the Ombudsperson’s mission and often the starting point for its action. Their questions, difficulties and complaints bring real-life situations to the institution’s attention, prompting engagement with public authorities to uphold rights, improve public administration and contribute to a fairer society.
From everyday concerns to far-reaching social change, every case tells a story. And every story brings a right to life — often beginning with a simple but powerful act: someone choosing to make their voice heard.
