- 'There are many kinds of collectors: from those who unabashedly ask us for advice on artworks that would look good in their living room—preferably matching the sofa (which is usually far more expensive than what they are willing to spend on the artwork itself)—to those who become so enthusiastic that they keep buying until there is no wall space left. Anecdotal though these situations may be, they are far more commonplace than one might imagine.
In this sense, I would argue that a true collector is someone who goes beyond the boundaries of good taste and interior decoration. Someone who understands that collecting inevitably means accumulating in order to study, enjoy, and experience the satisfaction of having added something to their life without which they would be, both literally and metaphorically, poorer.
