Marguerite Bornhauser (Paris, 1989) is a French visual artist who lives and works in Paris. Photography is her primary medium, which she takes beyond its frame, from the photogram to painted glass and installation. In colour as in black and white, her images turn the overlooked detail into a poetic, sensory experience.
A graduate of the École nationale supérieure de la photographie in Arles (2015), she had her first institutional solo show at the Maison européenne de la photographie in 2019. Winner of Photo London's Emerging Photographer of the Year award (2020), she was given a four-year carte blanche by the Grand Palais (2021-2025) and exhibited at the Rencontres d'Arles two years running (2023, 2024). In 2026, she exhibits alongside Christian Boltanski, Annette Messager and James Turrell at La Maison Guerlain, then at the Swedish Institute in Paris with the Hasselblad Foundation. Her work is held in the collections of the MEP, the Philharmonie de Paris and MACAM in Lisbon.
Represented by Galeria Carlos Carvalho, she has shown with the gallery since 2020, including a solo exhibition in Lisbon (2022-2023) and presentations at Paris Photo, ARCO and Photo London. A new solo exhibition at the gallery opens in April 2027. She is the author of six monographs, with texts by Simon Baker and Damarice Amao; Spectral Matter and Mirage will be published in November 2026 and March 2027.
