Questioning the principle of cataloging, ordering, documenting and interpretating as a basis for the scientific knowledge in the world, Ricardo Angelico places in the art work's space a multiplication of a small disjointed narrative fragments, or whose connection is not easily seen. “Ricardo Angélico’s hybrid or bizarre imaginary unites the post-apocalyptic with the childish, the apparently absurd with the playful tonality, the mystery with the impression of the horror vacui. A game of difference and repetition, of strange tonalities and dizzying details, of a baroque nature that accepts its excessive condition.”

In many of Ricardo Angélico’s paintings one can sense a will to a carnival atmosphere that is the result of his continued search for a refined and intelligent humour which is at the same time erudite and popular. His work accepts the post-modern condition both in what it contains of a post-historical liberation and in an accentuated tendency to create compositions that are a mise en abyme, in a lucid parallel with Borges’s narrative games. Ricardo Angélico questions the conventional figurative logic without moving towards an abstraction that is on so many occasions marked out by a combination of what is intentionally transcendental with what is shamelessly decorative.
