Mónica de Miranda’s work is based on themes of urban archaeology and personal geographies and works in an interdisciplinary way with drawing, installation, photography, film, video and sound, she explores the expanded forms and the frontiers between fiction and documentary. The artist started to exhibit in 2004 and just two years after presented her work in the show “The State of the World” at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisboa. Her participation in the exhibitions Telling Time (Rencontres de Bamako Biennale Africaine de la Photographie 10 éme edition, Bamako, 2015), Ilha de São Jorge (14th Biennial of Architecture of Veneza, 2014) and Contemporary African Art and Aesthetics of Translations (Dakar biennial, Dakar, 2016) gave her more international visibility.

She was nominated to the EDP New Artist Award, 2019,  Novo Banco Photo Prize, 2016, to Prix Pictet Photo Award (2016). Her work is represented in many public collections such as Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea do Chiado, Soho House, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and MAAT collection.
